Megan Snyder

Owner and Director of Debut Dance & Pilates, Megan Snyder is passionate about kids and sharing her love for dance. Native to Iowa City, Megan graduated from the University of Iowa in 2006 with a major in Dance. While at the U of I, Megan actively pursued performance opportunities through the Dance Department and spent three years on the U of I Dance Team cheering on the Hawkeyes and competing nationally. While in college she also interned at Dance Place, a non-profit organization in Washington DC established to bring high quality dance shows to low-income neighborhoods. Shortly after graduating, Megan discovered another love... Pilates, and started training with STOTT Pilates. Megan has worked with clients of all ages and abilities. Through both mat and reformer work, Megan has helped her clients achieve their goals.
Megan plays in active roll in impacting her students at Debut by teaching most classes at her studio including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical and dance team. She established the Debut Dance Team, which is a special group that has doubled in size after the studio's first year of operation. Mrs. Snyder has also created a brand new group at her studio for dedicated dancers called Forte Performing Company. Forte dancers produce a formal dance show that is based on a Broadway or musical show. Along with her studio choreography, Megan also works with local schools. She has traveled to various elementary schools for hip-hop workshops and choreographs for North Central Jr. High's show choir. Megan also choreographed "Once Upon A Mattress," "Grease," and "The Wizard of Oz" for local high school theater departments in the Iowa City School District. Recently Megan co-founded, Broadway Debut, a musical theater camp and volunteers her time to teach kids about entrepreneurship.

Baton

Debut Dance & Pilates is proud to welcome Miss Teen Iowa, Jessica Baker, to the Debut Dance studio faculty. She will also be offering private baton lessons on Sundays at Debut. Please schedule all private lessons with Ms. Jessica.

FORTE Performance Company
Debut Dance is proud to announce the arrival of its very own performance company! FORTE is a brand new group of dedicated dancers that are looking to grow artistically as dancers and performers. FORTE will meet weekly throughout the school year to rehearse large group pieces. Solos, duets and trios will also be available to FORTE dancers. FORTE dancers will have the privilege of receiving individualized instruction and will be able to perform a solo, duet, or trio in the annual Debut Dance Recital. Company members are not required to do a solo, duet or trio; this is simply an added opportunity for FORTE dancers.
This performance group will focus primarily on learning choreography rather than technical skills such as leaps and turns. Because technique classes are the foundation of strong dancers, it is essential that FORTE dancers be enrolled in (at the minimum) ballet and jazz technique classes at the studio. In addition, dancers must enroll in at least one dance elective class such as: lyrical, hip hop, modern or dance team.
FORTE will dance separately from the Dance Team (members can still be in BOTH groups) and will be featured in next years dance recital. Solos, duets, and trios may travel with Ms. Megan to one dance competition during the winter of 2011, specific competition date TBA. This performance opportunity is optional and is up to the solo, duet or trio dancers. The FORTE Performance Company as a whole will not be competing in 2010-2011.
