History of Jurrens Funeral Homes:
Alvie Lockwood opened his undertaking business in the early years of Rock Rapids at 112 First Avenue. It was later Jongewaard Funeral Home and furniture store, owned and operated by Harold Jongewaard. In 1958 Harold and his wife Edith purchased land on Park Drive and built the current Rock Rapids facility at 1207 Park Drive. When Harold retired, he sold the business to Dallas and Dick Stapp, a father and son team. They operated the Jongewaard-Stapp Funeral Homes in Rock Rapids and Larchwood.

In 1980 the Stapp family sold the funeral homes to Rich Roste. Jongewaard-Roste Funeral Home later became the Roste Funeral Homes of Rock Rapids and Larchwood. In 1989, Rich expanded his operation and acquired the Walton Funeral Homes in Sibley and Ashton. In 1996 and in 2004, Rich built facilities in Hills, MN and George to make a total of six locations.

In July 2005 Rich and Sue Roste retired from funeral service and sold the six funeral homes to Jerry and Amy Jurrens of George. The Jurrens Funeral Homes proudly serve the communities of Rock Rapids, Sibley, George, Larchwood and Ashton, IA and Hills, MN.
