Dinners cost 65 cents and were made from timeless Old World German and American recipes passed down from mother to daughter. All the foods has sources right in the Amanas: fresh vegetables from local gardens, meat from the Amana smokehouses and chickens from neighboring farms. William Leichsenring was born in the room that is now the Amana restaurant's Amana dining room. As a little girl, Lina worked long hours in an Amana Colonies community kitchen where workers from the Amana farms would come to enjoy hearty meals, freshly prepared with heaping bowls of salads, vegetables, potatoes, gravy and breads. This is "Family Style," a tradition of service carried on at the Ox Yoke Restaurants. Four generations have worked at the Ox Yoke Inn. Today the restaurants are managed by Bill Leichsenring Jr., his family and General Manager Ron Goltz.
Some of our guests have told us "that they just can't eat as much as they used to." We listened and today we offer half portions, plated entrees, sandwiches, salads and homemade soups. And while you're savoring that last bite, think of your favorite pie...it's probably in our oven now. Today the Ox Yoke Inn in Amana serves Lunch and Dinner daily and Sunday Brunch.
On December 29, 1998 the restaurant located at I-80 Amana exit 225 was acquired and renamed the Ox Yoke Innterstate. We are proud to offer a taste of the Amana Colonies including meats, breads, wines and beers. The Ox Yoke Innterstate serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner daily.
