ABOUT US The Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) is organized under an Iowa Chapter 28E Agreement to serve as the public transit services provider for the Iowa Department of Transportation's Region 11. HIRTA provides transit services in the following seven (7) central Iowa counties: Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story and Warren.
The HIRTA public transit service is open to the public and available to anyone, including persons with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Close to 100% if the HIRTA vehicle fleet is ADA-accessible. In accordance with the Iowa Smokefree Air Act of 2008, smoking is prohibited on all HIRTA vehicles.
The HIRTA Board of Directors is comprised of one (1) County Supervisor from each of the seven (7) counties within Region 11. Office staff include, an Executive Director and an Administrative Assistant.
The Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency provides public transit service available to all citizens and visitors of Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story and Warren Counties in central Iowa, enhancing quality of life, enabling access to employment and education, and promoting independent lifestyles for central Iowa residents.
SERVICES - ALL RIDES ARE OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Minimum Service hours are 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday, with the exception of some holidays. Additional hours and days may be available within each county.
