The First Presbyterian Church of Marion, Iowa, established in 1842, offers a variety of ministries, including vibrant worship in the Reformed Tradition with excellent preaching and music.
Sunday School is provided for ages 3 through adult, as well as mid-week programs for children and Sunday evening youth programs.
We take worship seriously at First Presbyterian. At the same time, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. We strive for excellence in both our music and our preaching, keeping within the Reformed Tradition. Yet, we try to be open to the leading of God's Spirit and responsive to the needs of the congregation.
Due to our number of choirs and music groups, each Sunday morning offers variety and interest. We offer two services, one at 8:30 and one at 10:45. Our 8:30 service is a traditional service with Reformed liturgy, usually with our pipe organ and Chancel Choir. A typical service might also include a children's choir, or an instrumental solo for an offertory. Our Synergy service is at 10:45 and is more contemporary in style, with a praise band and screen technology. While we do offer a nursery during worship, we enjoy and encourage children to attend, no matter how young. There is always a children's time offered at our Sunday morning worship services.
From September through the end of May we offer two services on Sundays. During the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day) we have one blended service (traditional and contemporary) at 9:00. Special services are held on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve.
