Cray, Goddard, Miller, Taylor & Chelf, LLP, began in 1924 with the arrival of Glenn F. Cray in Burlington. Throughout the 20th century its legal work reflected the changing economic and legal landscape of the times: bank closures in the 1930s, eminent domain for the United States to acquire land for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant during World War II, representation of schools in collective bargaining during the 1970s and 80s, representation of Burlington (now Great River) Medical Center as it matured from a local hospital to a regional medical center, and a wide variety of work in municipal law for communities in Des Moines County. Throughout its history, the firm has had an active trial practice in both plaintiff personal injury and insurance defense cases, while maintaining its traditional strength in business, real estate and probate law. Recently, the law firm expanded its practice to include bankruptcy and condominium property projects. The firm’s partners have a combined legal experience of more than 100 years.
