I'm an experienced home inspector that will methodically inspect your home and point out the truth. I report the problems as they exist on video. Nothing is made up, nothing is downplayed, and nothing is blown out of proportion. When I'm done inspecting your home, you'll know exactly what you're buying. About half of the Greater Omaha ASHI Chapter members pay real estate companies or agents to be on their "preferred vendor" lists. These pay-to-play relationships are highly unethical and not in your best interest. In addition, these relationships are against ASHI's Code of Ethics and these specific inspectors are blatantly ignoring the rules that the ethical inspectors are abiding by. To find out which home inspection comnpanies pay real estate offices, all you have to do is go to the larger real estate company websites. If that home inspection company is listed, they have paid to be there. You can also ask your real estate agent to find out.
Your real estate agent may be trying to refer you to an inspector. If they are handing you a business card, they may truly believe that inspector does a great job and are looking out for your best interest. Those agents I commend! The other agents that are pointing you to use a home inspector simply because they are on their company's preferred vendor program you need to watch out for. Here's why:
A home inspector that has paid-to-play can't be objective. If that inspector "kills a deal" they jeopardize losing their preferred vendor status and all that money they invested. It's in their best interest to NOT find everything or to sugarcoat the issues. Furthermore, these behind-the-scene deals are required by NE state law to be in writing in your purchase agreement. It's not just with home inspectors. These "preferred" relationships are found in almost every aspect of some of these real estate companys' way of doing business. There's a reason why some buyers are being pushed to use a certain loan officer, title company, termite company, structural engineer, electrician, plumber, etc. The answer is GREED!

I am an American Society of Home Inspectors Certified Inspector, Heat Exchanger Experts Certified, and Nebraska Radon Measurement Specialist with over 2,100 home inspections under my belt. For 6 years, I was a NAHI Certified Real Estate Inspector. I left the National Association of Home Inspectors in the Spring of '09 due to NAHI failing to offer its members any benefits and the poor leadership decisions of their Board. As their Treasurer, I had surfaced the fact that about 50% of membership dues were going to their management company. I tried to reduce the management fees, but was ignored and outvoted by the majority of the Board. I could no longer be a part of NAHI at that point. Up until 2009, I was a Past Board Member of NAHI, Served on NAHI's Executive Committee as the Secretary/Treasurer in 2008, Chaired NAHI's Website Committee and served on that committee for 5+ years, was their Board Liaison for their Marketing/PR Committee from '07-'08, & was the Past President of The Nebraska Chapter of NAHI '04-'07. I joined ASHI because of political reasons, their successful presence in the marketplace, and for all of the benefits they offer their members.
